It seems that the developers of Helldivers got what they wanted to see A-list talent host of the big-screen adaptation of the game: Jason Momoa just signed the movie. We learned last December that Justin Lin, a Fasting & Anger franchise veteran, would have gone up to direct THE Starship Troopers– influenced movie.

Helldivers is the latest Sony Pictures and PlayStation collaboration after 2022 Not knownwith Horizon: Zero Dawn among other titles on their upcoming to-do list. The companies have also found success on HBO’s TV The Last of Us and Peacock’s Metal construction series.

According to a Sony press release, “PlayStation’s Helldivers received critical acclaim when the game first came out in 2015, and the sequel, Helldivers 2, sold more than 12 million units across PS5 and PC in the first four months after its launch in 2024. The game was recently expanded to Xbox and performed very well. Helldivers 2 is a wildly popular game built on teamwork, friendship, humor, and exciting action. The story centers on an elite unit of soldiers—known as Helldivers—who must fight alien creatures that threaten to destroy the fictional planet of Super Earth.

Momoa, on his own a Fasting & Anger star, seems like a solid choice of title Helldiversbased not only on his action-movie bona fides—you can 100% imagine him out there defending Super Earth from terrifying and relentless aliens—but also on his success in video game adaptations. Maybe we forget, A Minecraft Movie was the top movie of 2025 at the domestic box office and reached number five worldwide.

Helldivers may be far from any chicken theater antics, but we can assume that Momoa, who is also in Street Fighter adaptation arriving later this year, is comfortable kicking ass and cracking wise in any imaginary environment. To that, he too playing Wolf on Supergirl movie coming this summer—expanding his DC presence far beyond Aquaman—and will appear without his signature beard this winter Dune: Part Three.
