Out-of-favour Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has made a controversial statement in which he claimed that West Indian cricketers are never keen on planning things; however, the way he expressed it has caused huge controversy with some fans taking exception to the alleged “racist” comments.
Cricket has been the most talked about sport in India in recent years and commenting on it is as easy as drawing water from a well. With countless platforms available to provide insight into the game and voice one’s thoughts, former players, pundits and cricket pundits have been brutal and unfiltered many times.
This time, the gun was pointed at out-of-favour Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, who was caught making deliberately racist comments while appearing on Cricbuzz Live with Dinesh Karthik and Saiyami Kher.
Your daily dose of cricket!
In the show, host Saiyami Kher talks to two Indian cricketers about the West Indies team’s victory over the mighty England in the second match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
During the conversation, Ajinkya Rahane can be heard claiming that West Indies players are not people who think too much. He said: “I donβt think West Indians think too much about the game. They are not too keen on planning. They’re not so sure. I love watching their celebrations when they perform well on the field. This is a very good side. “

Hearing this statement, many thought it was a racist remark; however, it could also be that Mumbai cricketer Ajinkya Rahane’s intention was simply to highlight the fact that West Indies players believe in playing the game with purpose rather than adhering to chalk-written theories or strategies.
After the video went viral on social media, some fans believed it was a racist attack on the West Indies team. They feel as if Ajinkya Rahane pointed out that Windies cricketers are brainless.
As a result, he has been criticized from all sides, with some claiming that he didn’t expect it, and some coming forward to say that he has now become “Another fan mentioned that West Indies might beat hosts India late in the game, before mocking them with a crossover version of that statement.
He was once a great cricketer but has now turned into an obnoxious loudmouthed activist

The last time India hosted the T20 World Cup, West Indies were champions
The last time the ICC T20 World Cup was held in India was ten years ago in 2016, in which the Windies defeated England in the final to become T20 World Champions for the second time. The famous Carlos Braithwaite hit four sixes in that match.
Darren Sammy was the team’s captain at the time and is now their coach. Even before that, West Indies won the ICC T20 World Cup hosted by Sri Lanka in 2012. They had defeated India in the semi-finals of the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup.
