Swindon 2 – 0 Newport

A brilliant cameo from substitute Fletcher Holman kept Swindon second in League Two, scoring in the opener and scoring an own goal in the 2-0 win over Newport to seal victory.

The former Wolves striker, a half-time substitute, cleverly broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Junior Hoilett found him lurking on the right. The lively striker cut into the box, fended off two challengers and fired into the far corner.

Three minutes later, Holman made a tempting outswinging cross and Joe Thomas scored the ball into his own goal.

Towns always dominate. In the second minute, Aaron Drinan rushed out from the wing and shot directly to goalkeeper Jordan Wright.

Hoilett came close to opening his Swindon account when Wright played the ball straight to Hoilett, but his shot went wide.

Ollie Clarke came close to scoring when his piledriver hit Harrison Biggins on the back of the head and went just wide.

Connor Ripley fought back Anthony Glennon’s stoppage-time free-kick as Town raced to a fourth win.
