Lindsey Vonn says she underwent a third round of surgery on Wednesday and is making “slow” progress as she recovers from an accident that broke her leg during Sunday’s Olympic downhill race.

The operation was successful, she said post on Instagram. She also shared photos of herself in a hospital bed with a metal frame attached to her leg.

“Success has a completely different meaning today than it did a few days ago,” she announced. “I’m making progress and even though it’s slow, I know I’ll be fine.”

She said she was grateful for the incredible medical staff, family and friends who were there for her and the “beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world.”

“Also, a big congrats to my teammates and all the Team USA athletes who inspire me and give me something to cheer for,” she posted.

Vonn she crashed seconds into her race after deciding to compete despite tearing her left ACL in a previous crash during the World Cup in the Swiss Alps the week before.

The 41-year-old American came out of retirement to compete in the Winter Olympic Games 2026 and said she was confident she could still finish the race with the help of a knee brace.
