Nadia Massih is pleased to welcome Renaud Douci, Field Coordinator for Solidarité Internationale in Tawila, Sudan, on the outskirts of Al-Fasher. He was “impossible to reach” during the brutal 500-day siege. Mr. Douci argues that Al-Fasher was not an unforeseen tragedy. “Everybody knew” the siege would end this way, yet significant protection and access never arrived. Here in Tawila, nearly a million displaced, we see firsthand how war turns infrastructure into weapons. The same dynamic of siege, displacement and abuse is now moving into Kordofan.
