South Africa great Dale Steyn showed his cricketing spirit ahead of South Africa’s match against Afghanistan at the 2026 T20 World Cup. The former bowler spent time with the Afghanistan players during their training ahead of the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 11.
Afghanistan chose to participate after winning the second match of Group D of the ongoing T20 World Cup against South Africa. Both sides made one adjustment to their lineups. South Africa brought in George Linde in place of Corbin Bose, while Afghanistan brought in Noor Ahmed in place of Zia-ur-Rehman.

Dale Steyn continues to impact cricket after legendary career ends
Dale Steyn has built his career on pure rhythm and sharp swing. Batters struggled against him for more than a decade. He ended his Test career with 439 wickets in 93 games, becoming South Africa’s leading wicket-taker.
In white-ball cricket, he took 196 wickets in ODIs and 64 wickets in T20Is. He also remained number one in the ICC Test bowling rankings for 263 consecutive weeks.
Steyn retired in 2021 but did not leave the game. He became the bowling coach of IPL Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and worked closely with young players like Umran Malik.
He has also branched out into commentary and now covers ICC events and SA20. Steyn continued to play an important role in cricket, whether as a player, coach or commentator.
Afghanistan faces must-win situation, South Africa looks forward to another victory
South Africa is expected to win the match against Afghanistan. In the first game against Canada, they scored 213 points. Aiden Markram, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs helped the team achieve this huge total.
Lungi Ngidi took four wickets to break up Canada’s batting line-up. South Africa won by 57 runs. They hope to win one more game to get closer to the Super 8.
Afghanistan are under pressure after losing their first match to New Zealand. Gulbadin Naib scored 50 but the bowlers could not defend 182 runs. They lost the match by five wickets. If Afghanistan lose again, their chances of advancing to the next round will be severely affected.
