Tottenham Hotspur were booed again as Newcastle secured a rare 2-1 win away from home, putting more pressure on Tottenham manager Thomas Frank.

This defeat means that Frank’s current winning rate is the lowest among all Tottenham managers in the Premier League era, with a winning rate of only 26.9%. The club currently falls to 16th place and is firmly trapped in a relegation battle.

Despite this, a defiant Frank insists he is “1000 per cent” sure he will stay in his role.

“I have to stay calm,” Frank said. “We have to get through this together.”

The Danes were booed by fans before kick-off but the home fans did rally behind their team throughout the game, which seemed to spark a reaction in the second half after Malick Thiaw opened the scoring before half-time before Archie Gray equalized.

The relief and positivity for Spurs fans was short-lived, however, as Jacob Ramsey restored Newcastle’s lead four minutes later when he fired home from inside the box while surrounded by defenders.

Frank called on his team to “fight like hell” to win in the build-up to this game, but in reality it was another tepid and disjointed performance, with Newcastle clearly the better team despite their poor away form.

Prior to this game, the visiting team had only won two of their past 15 away league games, but controlled this game from the start.

The win should have been more convincing but Joe Willock’s goal was disallowed after former referee Mike Dean saw the “closest” offside call six minutes before Theo broke the deadlock.

It was a game with both managers under intense pressure, but Howe relieved the pressure with a crucial win that lifted Newcastle to tenth place and ended their run of four consecutive games without a win in the top flight.

Spurs, meanwhile, have gone eight consecutive games without a win in the league and are yet to win in 2026.

Before the final whistle, chants of “You’ll be sacked tomorrow morning” and “We want Frank off” rang out from the home fans, accompanied by loud boos as Frank’s position was now becoming untenable.

Frank: Study shows firing managers is not the answer

“There are people at Tottenham and many other clubs before me who have lost their minds. I have to stay calm. We have to get through this together.”

“I also think there’s a lot of research that says (firing a head coach) is not the right thing to do.

“The only thing I’m focused on is fighting. Of course we know we’re not in a good situation. But everything in life, you need to stay calm and keep going.”

Howe: We showed who we are and the players fought for me

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe:

“I said again, I have to believe that I am the right person for the job, despite all the sacrifices it requires. I have to feel that the players are playing for me.

“Today, they proved that. But it has to be consistent going forward.

“It brings us closer together, strengthens relationships, and makes us all look inward. It makes us all look at what we are doing and how we can do it better. The job we are doing is very difficult. We are at the highest level.”

“You’re constantly being asked new questions. We play a game every three days. Sometimes you feel like you can’t breathe, you can’t reset. You’re asked to play again and again.

“That’s why we rotated the lineup to a certain extent today, trying to freshen up some players so they can really find their best. If we can get some players back from injury, we need to try and be able to do more.”
