Sam Bankman-Fried wants a re-trial on the fraud charges


Former cryptocurrency poster boy Sam Bankman-Fried is trying to get another chance in court. He filed a request for a new trial on claims that new witness testimony could change the case made against him by prosecutors, according to Bloomberg. His chances of getting a retrial, where he will represent himself, seem slim. This is a different gesture from a formal one APPEAL of his previous conviction.

Bankman-Fried is one of several cryptocurrency leaders who have since been indicted for fraud. After being imprisoned for witness tamperingfound him Guilty on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy in 2023. Bankman-Fried is sentenced up to 25 years in prison for his actions as CEO and co-founder of crypto exchange FTX.
