Benjamin Sesco scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw. Manchester United away at West Ham in Premier League.
The striker came off the bench to find the net with a wonderful flick to prevent United losing their first game under interim boss Michael Carrick, although their four-game winless run has come to an end.
Tomas Soucek opened the scoring for the Hammers in the second half as the Irons missed the chance to move level on points with Nottingham Forest in their survival bid.
They remain two points clear of their relegation rivals in 18th, with United fourth with a late goal.
West Ham vs Manchester United as it happened
West Ham started brightly as some fine work from Chrysencio Somerville down the right allowed the winger to swing in a cross for Jarrod Bowen to head just wide.
Bruno Fernandes could not keep a high effort under the bar as he was cleared on goal before being flagged offside, Summerville then stung the palm of San Lemmens with a fine effort from distance.
Another fine set-piece routine created an opportunity for Luke Shaw to guide the ball towards goal and Aaron Wan-Bissaka was on hand to clear the ball brilliantly off the line.
United have been able to break through a lot during this winning run under Carrick, but West Ham presented a different kind of challenge for the interim boss to deal with, with the hosts sitting back and allowing United to keep the ball but holding firm in defense and not conceding many chances.
Tati Castellanos caused problems with a deflected Diogo Dalot backpass before Amad Diallo fired into the side netting to close the half with the teams level – and Carrick to extend his winning run to five.
And that task became even more difficult early in the second half when Soucek got the finishing touch to Lemmens from Bowen’s cross to put the Hammers ahead.
The Red Devils thought they had a reprieve when Casemiro finished off Kobi Mainu’s lovely cross with a neat header but the Brazilian was rightly adjudged to be only offside.
United continued to have most of the ball as they pushed to level the game but had no chances to match possession, with Brian Mbuyomo heading well wide before Benjamin Cesko tried to beat the goalkeeper.
The Cameroonian headed in before his goal-bound shot was blocked as time ran out to avoid United’s first defeat under Carrick.
West Ham managed to break Callum Wilson, who drove brilliantly but his shot was eventually blocked by Lenny Yoro as he closed in on goal.
Chances began to open up for the Hammers, with Yoro thwarting another shot at hand, this time by Adama Traor, who could have easily headed over.
Joshua Zirkzy was then inches away from heading Fernandes’ cross into the far corner but once again it hit the wrong side of the post.
But just when it looked like they were going away empty-handed, Cesko found the net with a fine flick to rescue a point for United and ensure they are yet to taste defeat under Carrick, even though their winning run is now over.
