Two wins from two games. Pakistan are on the fast track to victory before February 15, when they face India in their third group match. Ahead of this crucial match, captain Salman Ali Agha pointed out some key points from today’s (February 10) match.
Pakistan easily defeated the United States by 32 points. They struggled against the Netherlands in their last game, mostly due to poor batting. The win against Team USA was the result of team play. Agha and his men dominated the game in every aspect.
Pakistan captain not happy with his batting
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Salman Ali Agha said they may win one more game but their batting will improve a lot. Nonetheless, the captain praised the bowling effort.
Your daily dose of cricket!
“We got the job done but we need to play better in the middle order. The bowlers did a good job. We are not at our best yet,” the Pakistan skipper said.
Fans were surprised when Pakistan batted first. Due to the dew factor, teams will choose to pitch first in most situations. But Agha and his team had different ideas.
“We are Pakistan and we do things differently from the world (about wanting to bat first). We are also happy to chase. Our batting order is flexible,” he stressed.
PAK vs USA match summary
Batting first, the Men in Green scored 190 runs in 9 wickets in 20 overs. Most of the team’s scoring came from Sahibzada Farhan, who scored 73 off 41 with 11 boundaries, six fours and five sixes.
Babar Azam became the second highest scorer in the first innings with 40 runs and Shadab Khan played a fast-paced 30-run knock. The rest of the batsmen failed to live up to expectations. Aga’s reasons for speaking about batting preparation are understandable.
In a 190-run match against Pakistan, the US cricket team scored only 158 runs for eight in the 20-over limit. They put a lot of effort into the game thanks to Shubham Ranjane (51), Shayan Jahangir (49) and Milind Kumar (29). Star pacer Shaheen Afridi played a key role against Ranjane, leaving the US team behind immediately. Ranjan’s wicket proved fatal for the second-order batting team as the rest of their batting line-up remained largely quiet.
We are ready for any challenge: Agha
“Shaheen (Afridi) is a match-winner. His batting has improved. Abrar (Ahmed) has been outstanding. He is the one who got us back into the game,” the skipper said.
As per the schedule, two consecutive wins are necessary to boost the team’s morale before the next game against India. Agha did not mention any team names but claimed they are ready for any challenges ahead.
“We are ready for any challenge. If we play good cricket, we can play against any team,” Aga said.
Salman Ali Agha singled out Afridi and Ahmed but Usman Tariq took 3 wickets in 4 overs and scored twice for Shadab Khan. Afridi, Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz took one wicket each.
