Pakistan beats USA to avenge T20 World Cup upset | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup News

After a disastrous defeat in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Pakistan took revenge against the United States in the 2026 World Cup with a 32-run victory.

Opener Sahibzada Farhan hit a solid half-century while spinner Usman Tariq grabbed three wickets as Pakistan defeated the United States 32 runs During the T20 World Cup Group A match in Colombo.

The 29-year-old hit 5 sixes and 6 fours in his 41-ball 73 and was aided by Babar Azam’s (4 fours and 1 six) brilliant 32-ball 46 to lead Pakistan to a strong total of 190-9 at the Sinhala Sports Club Stadium on Tuesday.

Their spinners then contained the batting of the inexperienced US team, with Tariq taking 3-27 and Shadab Khan taking 2-26 to restrict their opponents to 158-8 in 20 overs.

The win avenged Pakistan’s humiliating defeat at the hands of the United States in the T20 World Cup two years ago and gave them their second win in as many matches after a narrow wicket win over the Netherlands on Saturday.

For the United States, Shubham Ranjane top-scored with a 30-ball 51 that included three sixes and as many as four fours before losing the match to bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was playing his 100th T20 international.

Opener Shayan Jahangir scored an attractive 34-ball 49 with two sixes and five fours, while Milind Kumar scored 29 runs, but the US lost the match at 123-3.

Earlier, Farhan and fellow opener Saim Ayub posted 19 runs off 17 balls with 54 in 5 overs, including 2 sixes.

Pakistan then lost two wickets in the sixth over off the bat of Shadley van Schalkwyk.

Ayub was caught on a slower ball and skipper Salman Agha holed out the ball on the deep square leg boundary to get one.

Farhan and Azam took control of the match with their third wicket stand of 81 and Pakistan breathed a sigh of relief in the middle overs.

Farhan scored 1,000 T20 international runs in the 41st over before being caught by spinner Harmeet Singh in the 16th over.

Shadab Khan launched the attack, scoring 30 runs off 12 balls, before Pakistan managed just 13 runs in the final two overs, losing five wickets.

Schalkewijk was the top bowler in the country with 4-25 in a 29-match losing streak against India on Saturday.
