Fabio Wardley is finalizing terms for his WBO heavyweight title defense against Daniel Dubois on May 9.
WBO champion Wardley will defend his gold belt for the first time against Dubois in a major all-British match at a venue in the UK. The specific information has not yet been determined.
Wadley became the new WBO title holder after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the belt rather than make a mandatory defense against the undefeated Briton.
The Ipswich boxer captured the WBO interim belt in October after finishing a stunning 11th.–Joseph Parker is suspended for the round at the O2 Arena.
Dubois reunited with coach Don Charles as he attempted to regain the world title following a knockout loss to Usyk in the Wembley rematch in July.
The Londoner previously defended his IBF belt with a dramatic knockout of Anthony Joshua last September.
Wadley manager Mike Ofor said last week sky sports: “Fabio wanted to fight Alexander Usyk after defeating Joseph Parker, but he chose to go after Deontay Wilder. Now that that fight has fallen through, Fabio hopes to unify with Usyk for all the belts.
“We were originally going to have a fight with either Chisora or Wilder on April 4, but they embraced each other and, as you saw from the press conference, acted like a loving couple. But boxing is a tough sport, so I wish them all the best for the future.
“As for Daniel Dubois, obviously Fabio would love to be in this fight. There’s nothing better than an all-British fight for the World Heavyweight Championship!”
When asked about Wardley vs. Dubois, promoter Frank Warren told sky sports: “We are talking to Fabio and Daniel about various things.
“No matter what happens, they have to fight, they all want to fight and they will fight.
“So they’ll probably be fighting in late April, early May.”
