indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal Finally addresses rumors about him dating reality TV personality Shefali Bagaresolutely refuting baseless speculation about his personal life. Chahal has been out of the national team for the past three years, but he remains a regular topic of discussion off the field – especially after his relationship with Dhanashree Verma Last March.
Since then, every public appearance of the cricketer has been closely scrutinized, often sparking heated debates on social media platforms. However, Chahal insists that while he understands the public’s curiosity, there must be clear boundaries.
‘Work comes with being in the public eye’: Yuzvendra Chahal
Speaking on India Salaam Cricket Today, Chahal shared his thoughts on fame and the constant attention that comes with it. He explained that he would not be offended as long as the public discussion remained respectful and centered on him.
“I don’t mind at all, as long as it’s about me, in a good, positive way, or even in a funny way,” Chahal said. “It’s part of the profession. You’re in the public eye and people talk about you.”
The spinner admitted that scrutiny of public figures is inevitable, especially in a cricket-obsessed country like India. Yet he took a firm stand when others made baseless speculation.
Talking about the rumors surrounding Shefali Bagga, Chahal expressed concern about other people’s names being dragged into online gossip so freely. He stressed that such narratives could unfairly impact individuals who have nothing to do with the speculation.
“When you start associating other people’s names with it, that’s wrong,” Chahal said. “They knew nothing about it and suddenly it was being discussed for no reason.”
The leg-spinner highlights how simple social interactions are often misunderstood, especially when male and female friends are together in public. Not every meeting needs to be labeled or sensationalized, he believes.
Chahal went on to explain how everyday activities can quickly turn into rumors, especially in the age of social media. He points out that the assumption that a man and a woman must be in love when they are together is both outdated and unfair.
“If a boy goes out with a girl, they’re not necessarily boyfriend and girlfriend or what’s going on,” he said. “Sometimes you just go see your friends.”
Chahal believes this tendency to jump to conclusions reflects a larger problem of shrinking personal space for public figures.

So what surprised him most was how quickly a normal evening turned into extensive chatter, reinforcing his point about how closely his movements were being tracked.
While Chahal says he has learned to deal with criticism and gossip, he admits the impact on his family has been harder to ignore. He revealed that his parents and sisters often encountered such reports, which weighed heavily on his emotions.
“I can adjust. I don’t care,” he said. “But my sisters were with me, too. My parents were there. They read these things.”
