A viral post claims that former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has accused the match between India and the United States of being rigged during the 2026 T20 World Cup, but this is not true. However, Inzamam was seen praising India skipper Suryakumar Yadav for his composure against the United States and revealed the quote being circulated as fake.
India kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign with a win over the United States at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, February 7. After losing the toss, India batted first and managed 161/9 in 20 overs. The US responded with a score of 132/8 and India won the first match by 29 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav saves India after collapse of supreme order
India struggled early on after being asked to bat on a slow Wankhede pitch. The top order soon fell apart with Abhishek Sharma and Shivam Dube falling in love with the golden duck. Ishan Kishan scored 20 runs from 16 balls as India slipped to 46/4 in the powerplay and later fell to 77/6.

Suryakumar Yadav then took over the affairs under pressure. He started cautiously, scoring just five out of 11 at one point, but he kept his cool and rebuilt the innings. After settling in at the crease, the right-handed batsman started attacking the bowlers and changed the momentum.
The India skipper smashed a total of 49 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes, for an unbeaten 84 at a strike rate of 171.43. He also smashed 21 off Saurabh Netravalkar in the final over, helping India win at 161/9 in 20 overs, a total that proved adequate on a tricky pitch and gave the bowlers space to defend.
United States Ki Zaroor Tareef Karunga – Inzamam-ul-Haq
Inzamam-ul-Haq said India won the match against the United States but the way the United States played and the way they played the game deserved appreciation.
“It was a game between India and the United States and I must say, India won easily. I must commend the United States team for the way they played cricket,” Inzamam-ul-Haq said.
(This was a match between India and the United States, and I should say India won easily. I definitely have to praise the United States for the way they played cricket.)
No, he didn’t say that. He was misquoted. He actually praised Surya Kumar Yadav. https://t.co/8EtPnl8TUP pic.twitter.com/Dv4AgPhmO7

Credit goes to Suryakumar Yadav – Inzamam-ul-Haq
Inzamam-ul-Haq also said the match took a brief tilt when India lost its first three batsmen. However, he feels the situation never got out of hand because of Suryakumar Yadav. Inzamam said Suryakumar played with freedom and confidence under pressure.
“India had its first teenage player out and there was a feeling that maybe the United States could catch him as well. But in my opinion, the credit should go to Suryakumar Yadav because the kind of player he is, the way he bowled and the way he batted, he handled the match with complete ease.”
(When India lost their top three players, it felt like the U.S. might put pressure on them. But in my opinion, full credit should go to Suryakumar Yadav because of the kind of player he is, the freedom with which he plays and the style of batting he plays. He handled the situation with complete ease.)
