After T20 World Cup drama, India demands three-match Test series against Pakistan in England

Michael Vaughan wants India vs Pakistan Test series: On February 15, Pakistan finally agreed to change its decision to boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, and the match between India and Pakistan was finally held as scheduled. The Pakistan Cricket Board decided to withdraw its stance after lengthy discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The PCB has put forward three conditions ahead of the top-tier India-Pakistan bilateral series (tri-nation series between Bangladesh, India and Pakistan). However, these decisions did not support the ICC as they rejected these demands. Thereafter, the ICC gave PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi one day to consult with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and confirm the committee’s position.

Pakistan changes stance

In response, the Pakistani government reversed its decision to boycott the match. They issued a statement in which they mentioned that the Pakistan government has given a green signal that its national cricket team will take the field on February 15, 2026 at the R Premedasa Stadium in Colombo.

The PCB made five demands, including Pakistan’s request that Bangladesh not be fined for withdrawing from the T20 World Cup. The ICC was asked to provide Bangladesh with a compensatory global tournament after the Women’s T20 World Cup was moved from the country to Dubai last year due to social unrest.

The Under-19 World Cup is held next cycle as an alternative. Of the five demands, the ICC met only two and rejected the remaining three.

Michael Vaughan demands a unique India vs Pakistan series

Following the row, former England captain Michael Vaughan shared his thoughts on the three-week controversy that unfolded. He believes that with the controversy over, it is good news for world cricket. Michael Vaughan also wants India and Pakistan to play a three-match Test series in England.

India vs Pakistan Test Match?

India and Pakistan have not played a Test series since 2007. The last Test between the two countries was played on December 8, 2007 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The result of the game was a draw. India won the Test match by defeating their old rivals 1-0. If there is a Test series between the two sides, it will be a treat to watch in white jerseys.

Bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be up against the likes of Babar Azam and Salman Ali Agha with the red ball, and it will be a completely different game. Pakistan had previously hosted England due to security concerns.

However, Michael Vaughan’s demand for a Test series appears to be far from being fulfilled as the two countries have not played a bilateral series in more than a decade. Their last bilateral series was in 2013 when Pakistan toured India.
