West Ham vs Manchester United Preview
West Ham were three games into a 10-match winless run when the Hammers drew 1-1 at Manchester United on December 4, but Saturday’s 2-0 win at Burnley means Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are now three points behind fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest after three wins in four games.
A major attacking threat is part of their resurgence, with a run of nine goals in four matches since scoring two efforts on target at Old Trafford just over a month after Santo’s arrival.
“We are able to put more players in the box and create more combinations in the final third,” observed the Portuguese.
“To score goals, you have to put more bodies in the box and shoot. We encourage our boys to try things, challenge themselves and take risks, because with risks come rewards.

“(United) have a different shape with a different manager and new ideas. They are talented all over the pitch.
“We see many things at United, but Bruno Fernandes is one we have to watch out for. He is a fantastic player.”
United are targeting a fifth straight win since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim on an interim basis on January 13, beating Tottenham 2-0 on Saturday for their third home win on that run.
Victory at the London Stadium would send United into third place above Aston Villa, who host struggling Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday (19:30 GMT).
“They’re very good in transition,” said Carrick, discussing the opponents with whom he began his professional career in 1997, making his senior debut in 1999.
“They have some really good attacking players. When they lead off the steam at home, they are a dangerous team. We definitely need to be ready to face them all.
“There are still things to improve on… trying to be better collectively, as a team, when we don’t have the ball.
“But in three or four weeks, we’re not going to fix everything and suddenly look perfect. The clean sheet (on Saturday) was important for us.”
