Kevin Pietersen gave the cricketing world a chance to witness a jaw-dropping moment when England star Jos Buttler accomplished something that has never been done off the field during the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup between India and Sri Lanka.
Jos Buttler makes an unprecedented catch
In fact, Jos Buttler made history when he made a clean catch of the cricket ball after catching it from a drone 122 meters above the ground.
The challenge was anything but easy as the ball was released from a great height via a drone, testing the former England captain’s vision, timing, nerves and hand-eye coordination.

As the ball fell from the sky, Buttler kept his composure, kept his eyes on the ball, and made the catch safely, shocking Pietersen and his entire team and now the fans as well because this was something that not even two of the greatest wicketkeepers MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist could do.
Butler breaks world record, video goes viral
With this remarkable effort, the England wicketkeeper-batsman surpassed the previous world record of 119.86m set by Australian wicketkeeper Timothy Shanon Jebaseelan in 2021 in Sydney. Shannon broke the previous record of 114 meters set in 2019.
Now, Butler’s 122-meter catch stands tall. The incredible attempt is currently awaiting official approval, but if confirmed, Buttler will become the new Guinness World Record holder for the highest catch in cricket.

However, Petersen has confirmed that Buttler has broken the cricket world record for the highest catch. The former England legend filmed the video and shared it on his YouTube channel on February 9 titled ‘The Switch: Kevin Pietersen and For The Love Of Cricket’.
Why is Butler one of the best goalies?
The 1.22-meter catch, while a challenge, still shows how good Butler’s hands are. The England star has long been one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the world.
In ODI cricket, Buttler played 199 matches and took 236 catches, while he took 87 catches in 148 T20I matches for England. Talking about Test cricket, the Englishman showed great focus and patience by picking up 153 catches in just 73 games.

Jos Buttler creates history in T20 World Cup 2026
Jos Buttler reached a major milestone in England’s first match of the 2026 T20 World Cup against Nepal on February 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Buttler’s 26 runs off just 17 balls helped him surpass Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the third-highest scorer in T20 World Cup history. Jayawardene scored 1,016 runs in 31 T20 World Cup matches.
The Englishman achieved this record while playing in his 36th T20 World Cup match. He has now scored 1,039 runs in the tournament with an average of 41.56 and a strike rate of 147.37. Only two players in the history of the T20 World Cup have scored more runs than Buttler, namely India’s Rohit Sharma (1,220 points) and Virat Kohli (1,292 points).
