The latest release of millions of documents related to notorious sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein by the U.S. Department of Justice sheds more light on the relationships he developed with a variety of influential figures, including many from the U.S. technology industry.
Notably, the documents cite communications and meetings between two of the world’s richest tech tycoons, Elon Musk and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. In recent weeks, this has drawn intense scrutiny of the two men, who have both denied any wrongdoing with Epstein.
But the two billionaires aren’t the only tech names to recur in the new filings. Other tech executives named include Google co-founder Sergey Brin, venture capitalist Peter Thiel, former Microsoft executive Steven Sinofsky and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.
While the executives had ties to Epstein in the past, the new revelations reveal more about their ties to the convicted sex offender than was previously known, through records including emails, timelines and photos.
Brin and Sinofsky have not yet commented on the matter, while Thiel and Huffman have said they were only associated with Epstein for legal and legitimate purposes.
Authorities stressed that the name in the records does not indicate wrongdoing or prove that the name was part of an alleged client list or extortion scheme.
Still, the documents help paint a picture of Epstein’s long struggle to infiltrate some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful circles before his death in 2019, sometimes even becoming his confidant and power broker.
Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and Palantir
Venture capitalist and Palantir and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, who also appears in Epstein’s documents, worked with Elon Musk, with newly released documents showing communications between the two.
These communications began around 2014 and continued until2019Epstein was arrested just months before on federal sex trafficking charges and long after he was first formally charged with sex-related crimes in 2006.

In the recording, Epstein advises Barak on how to use his connections to land a lucrative position at a company, and mentions Palantir as a potential option. He added that he had not yet met Till but hoped to see him next week.

In response to CNBC’s request for comment, a representative for Thiel said the venture capitalist had never visited Epstein’s notorious private island in the Virgin Islands.

Thiel said the discussion focused on tax and financial advice. He added that he underestimated the seriousness of Epstein’s earlier crimes because of his lenient sentencing in 2008 and his reliance on his judgment about the relationship.
Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn
Reid Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn in 2002, is mentioned multiple times in Epstein’s newly released documents, and correspondence between the two shows several friendly email exchanges.
While most correspondence focused on fundraising for the MIT Media Lab, personal interactions, tax advice, conference plans, and mention of gifts Hoffman sent it to Epstein. The documents also confirm that Huffman visited Epstein’s private island in 2014.
Hoffman has previously acknowledged visiting the island, saying the trip was strictly for charity and that he later regretted not researching Epstein more thoroughly beforehand.
However, other emails reveal plans for more visits to Epstein’s estate, including his Zorro Ranch in New Mexico and at his apartment in Manhattan, although it’s unclear which of those trips actually took place. hoffman recently Confirmed Meetings with Epstein in 2016 in Palo Alto and Cambridge.
Epstein was seen calling Huffman a “very close friend” and at one point said he missed with Internet Entrepreneur. Emails from 2014 also show the financier tried to help Huffman with investment opportunities in India.

Meanwhile, a 2015 email from Epstein mentions a dinner party hosted by Huffman in Palo Alto, Zuckerberg, Musk, Thiel and MIT neuroscientist Ed Boyden attended.

Huffman did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment. He has previously said he regrets his interactions with Epstein and has called for the full release of Epstein’s documents. There is no suggestion in the latest documents reviewed by CNBC that Epstein acted criminally or was involved in illegal activity.
However, last November, President Donald Trump Order the Justice Department to investigate Huffman is a major Democratic donor, along with former President Bill Clinton and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers.
Trump has framed the investigation as an inquiry into Democrats’ ties to Epstein, although some critics see it as a departure from Trump’s own mentions in the documents. Trump confirmed a past friendship with Epstein but said he was unaware of his crimes and severed ties with him years ago.
Sergey Brin, Google co-founder
The document release also includes multiple references to Google co-founder Sergey Brin, including in email correspondence.

The exchange appeared to be a follow-up to an earlier meeting between the two. “Dinner at Jeffrey’s is always a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Looking forward to seeing you,” Maxwell wrote.
CNBC reached out to Brin via Google for comment but did not receive a response.
Links between Epstein and Brin have been documented before, but no allegations of wrongdoing have been made.

The latest documents reveal more details about Epstein’s relationship with Steven Sinofsky, a former Microsoft executive responsible for key products such as Windows and Office.

An email exchange from November 2012 also appears to show a reference to Epstein possible meetings between Sinofsky discusses career opportunities with Apple’s Tim Cook. In the email, Epstein appeared to indicate he had recently spoken to Cook and said “Tim Cook was pleased to meet with Sinofsky,” but the context was unclear. A few months later, Sinofsky e-mailEpstein on meeting Cook.
Sinofsky declined to comment. Apple did not respond to a request for comment about Epstein’s alleged interactions with Cook.
Epstein’s ties to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, which emerged in earlier released documents, have also come under scrutiny in recent weeks after being mentioned in the latest disclosures. They included draft emails to himself in which Epstein suggested he helped facilitate Gates’ extramarital affairs and sexual encounters, among other things.
In an interview with Australia’s Nine News on Wednesday, Gates denied any wrongdoing related to the new documents, calling Epstein’s allegations “absolutely ridiculous and completely false.”
He stressed that his interactions with Epstein were limited to dinners intended to discuss potential charities, adding that he had “never been to the island” and “never met any women.”
