Prior to joining NBC, Tirico served as the lead commentator for ESPN and ABC’s Monday Night Football from 2006 to 2015, most notably working with Jon Gruden. He took over at NBC in 2022 when longtime broadcaster Al Michaels left to lead Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football coverage.

In 2025, he also became the primary announcer for NBC’s NBA coverage, although initially in a limited capacity during the run of “Sunday Night Football.” Among other games, he officiated the season opener between the Houston Rockets and defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

He is also the studio host for NBC’s ongoing coverage of the Milan Winter Olympics and throughout northeastern Italy.

Mike Tirico makes candid announcement of Super Bowl for first time in broadcasting career

In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, Mike Tirico discusses the implications of his first Super Bowl. One of the first things he revealed was asking Fox’s Kevin Burkhardt for advice:

“We’ve stayed in touch over the last three years or so via text and seeing each other at NFL meetings. I really like Kevin and his story… His first story was just three years ago, so it’s still new to him. I’d love to take advice from people I admire and just want to hear, ‘Hey, here’s what I learned and here’s what you might go through.'”

He continued:

“I just want to do a good job documenting the game, informing and entertaining the audience, and then you can move on to the next thing in life. This is the greatest single sports day in America, and people gather in front of their televisions. No one gathers together to watch me and Chris, they gather together to enjoy the game.”

Currently, Super Bowl LX is available to watch on NBC and Peacock. The Seattle Seahawks currently lead the New England Patriots 6-0.
