U.S. Olympians struggle to get on podium in first two days of competition 2026 Winter Olympicsbut Sunday ended with a gold medal.

The U.S. Figure Skating Team wins the gold medal in the figure skating team competition. The U.S. team scored a total of 69 points, beating Japan to the top spot by just one point. Italy Finally, he won the bronze medal with a score of 60 points.

Team USA needs to be near the top in ice dance, pairs skating, women’s singles and men’s singles skating. Madison Chock and Evan Bates broke ice dance discipline with a score of 133.23 and the 10 points they needed to start the day.

Danny O’Shea and Kam Ellie performed well enough to take one more point than they had qualified for. However, the pair finished behind Japan’s Ryuichi Kihara and Riku Miura, Georgia’s Luca Belurava and Anastasia Metelkina and Italy’s Niccolò Massi and Sara Conte.

Amber Glenn scored eight points in the final round of women’s singles, but fell behind Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto and Anastasia Gubanova.

Ilya MalininNicknamed “The Four Gods,” he needs a near-perfect routine in the men’s singles competition, and he delivered on the biggest stage of his career to date. He scored 200.03 points, giving the U.S. the 10 points needed to jump into first place. Japanese player Shun Sato put pressure on his opponents with his outstanding performance, but only scored 194.86 points.

It was Team USA’s second gold medal on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Breezy Johnson took first place in the women’s downhill alpine skiing race.
