Alex Ross Takes Wonder to New Dimensions in a New Graphic Novel



For decades, readers of Marvel and DC Comics have been treated to beautiful photorealistic artwork on Alex Ross. For his next Marvel project, Ross is putting his talents as an artist and writer to use in a graphic novel that promises to give new spins to the publisher’s roster of characters.

Known as Marvel Dimensions, it’s his latest turn as a follow-up writer 2022 that is Fantastic Four: Full Circle. Where that book is 64 pages long, Dimensions runs 112 pages and features heavy hitters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Avengers. Plot-wise, it’s Marvel now is mysteriousonly to say that the book begins with the universe’s “iconic beginnings and slowly turns into something darker and more unpredictable.”

Described by Ross himself Amazing Dimensions as “as bonkers a trip for the reader as it can be” on the Hollywood Reporter. “You get one kind of hobby, and then it changes in your middle and then you get a different art style all of a sudden…

That change in format comes in the middle of the book in the form of a 32-page story that is cooked up and said to be the key to whole storyline. Absolutely, Dimensions built from ideas that Ross has had over the years, partly inspired by a similar origin retelling that he did for DC heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman back in 2005. Here, he was looking for a little “twisted,” so the debut of about 200 characters-or at least their variants, a la Kingdom Come.
