Rashid Khan bids farewell to IPL teammate Glenn Philips: The 2026 T20 World Cup has begun. In the fourth match of the main event, New Zealand will take on Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Afghanistan chose to bat first after winning the toss and scored a total of 182 runs in 20 overs.
The chase continued with the Black Caps losing just 3 wickets despite a 100-run lead at the plate. In the 9th over, skipper Rashid Khan bowled out Glenn Philips, who looked in fine form, to see off his Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) teammates. He was caught saying “fuck off, f*ck off” after dismissing his Gujarat Titans teammates.

Your daily dose of cricket!

Rashid Khan had the last laugh
Rashid Khan was smashed for 15 in the first over and Glenn Phillips smashed him for a six before scoring a boundary, and the wicket was a comeback of sorts for the veteran leg-spinner, who exploded behind the wicket.
The game has begun with 13 games remaining in the final three games. Afghanistan will feel they are out of the game as Tim Seifert, who scored 65 off 41 balls, was the last man to be dismissed, while Mark Chapman arrived after Glenn Phillips was dismissed. Daryl Mitchell arrived at the crease and the game entered an interesting phase.
Rashid Khan leads Afghanistan to loss
Afghanistan, batting first, got off to a good start despite losing both openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Ghubaz in the powerplay. Gulbadin Naib scored a brilliant 63 runs off 35 balls while Sediqullah Atal played a leading role scoring 29 runs off 24 balls. Darwish Abdul Rasooli scored 20 points from 13 games and small cameos from Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi helped them achieve a decent total.
New Zealand came close to victory thanks to quick scores from Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell. The former has now reached 27 off 14 balls, while the latter has 13 off 8 balls. Afghanistan need to pick wickets to stay in the match; otherwise, the match will end before the 20th over.
New Zealand is in complete control
Mark Chapman has been sacked by Azmatullah Omarzai. This could signal another twist in the game. Previously, when the two teams met again in the 2024 event, Afghanistan pulled off an upset by defeating New Zealand by 84 runs.
Afghanistan are one of the most improved teams in world cricket. They were semi-finalists in the previous competition. They defeated Australia in the Super Eights to advance to the final four, but lost to South Africa. This year, they are placed in a likely death group with South Africa and New Zealand.
