After Manchester United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0, arsenal The legendary Ian Wright says (h/t subway):
“That’s the quality of Kobe Manu, when he came into the England squad, we saw him play in the Euros as an 18-year-old, we knew the quality he had. Everyone was baffled by what happened under Ruben Amorim. Because when you see him, a guy who hasn’t played, coming into a Manchester United team that’s out of form, playing in midfield, that’s where all the questions revolve around… just quality.”
“I think it’s very embarrassing for Ruben Amorim, to be honest. Because what we’re seeing now is a Manchester United youth product who’s not getting a chance to play and is very, very close to leaving the club. He (Mainoo) was outstanding today, very good,” he added.
In addition to assists, Mainoo’s pass completion rate was 75/80, with 4 key passes. The Manchester United academy graduate also completed 2/4 of his dribbling attempts, won 8/14 duels and completed 4 recoveries.
Berbatov heaps praise on Kobe Minu after Manchester United win over Tottenham
Former Manchester United and tottenham hotspur Forward Dimita Berbatov also praised Kobe Mainu’s performance on Saturday. He said he was delighted the midfielder was staying at the club despite rumors he could leave the club in search of playing time.
Berbatov said:
“When I watched him today, and not just today, he was constantly scanning the field, constantly scanning where he was, where his teammates were, painting that picture in his mind so he knew exactly when and how the ball was going to play one touch, two touch.
“When the game needs to slow down, he’s very smart about slowing it down, drawing opponents towards him and then passing the ball. That frees up space in the opposition half. Again, it’s great that he’s staying at Manchester United and we don’t have to be forced to watch him play for another team because now we can see how good he really is and I think he can get even better,” he added.
The 20-year-old Mainu came through Manchester United’s youth academy and has made 90 appearances for the senior team, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. The Red Devils, meanwhile, have won four games in a row and their next game is away to West Ham United on February 10.
