Supermodel Paulina Porizkova details sexual harassment allegations in fashion

Paulina Prizkova Revealing some of the dark secrets of the high fashion world, she claims her path to superstardom was paved by unpleasant encounters.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit legend, 60, detailed the normalization of sexual harassment she faced as a teenager, saying those responsible for managing her career often put her in compromising situations.

“I started modeling when I was 15 years old while on summer vacation in Paris,” Porizkova shared in a video clip posted to . Instagram. “Every day I would be sent on four to ten so-called ‘tours.’ You would go and they would see – the whole city – me alone, knowing nothing about the language or the city.”

The Czechoslovak-born model explained that while some sessions were professional, many others were far from professional.

“Sometimes the people I see are well-dressed and in the office, and sometimes they’re middle-aged men who live in messy apartments and they just want to take a few casual photos of me — you know, preferably nude,” she said. “I’ve lost count of the number of men in open bathrobes who have greeted me in hotel rooms or apartments where agencies or clients have sent me.”

Porizkova, who made history as the first Central European woman to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in 1984, points out that such progress isn’t limited to cluttered apartments.

She recalls well-dressed older men regularly inviting her to parties, yachts and tropical villas.

For years, the supermodel thought these encounters were just part of the paycheck.

“I took it all for granted,” Porizkova admits. “My job was to take off my clothes, put them back on, and learn how to defend myself creatively against horny men so you didn’t offend them and lose your job.”

It wasn’t until the 1990s, when she watched a segment on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show about sexual harassment in the workplace, that she realized what she was experiencing was harassment.

“I looked at my girlfriend and said, ‘Is this sexual harassment? I thought it was a compliment,'” she recalled.

The author of “No Filter: The Good, the Bad, the Beautiful” reflects on her vulnerability as a child in high-stakes industries, highlighting how easily children can be manipulated by those in power.

“When you take a child and you put them in any situation, that child will adapt. If an adult tells you this is the way things should be, who are you, the child, to protest? That makes the child the easiest target,” she said. “If you’re not sure at what age a child is considered a child, then you either don’t have children or you don’t have the humanity to remember that you are a child.”

The supermodel added the hashtags “#Epstein,” “#EpsteinFiles” and “#Justice” to her social media posts.

Porizkova’s illustrious career includes serving as the spokesperson for Estée Lauder and serving as a judge on America’s Next Top Model alongside Tyra Banks. During her 41-year career, she appeared in 11 issues of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

She also transitioned into a successful writing career, freeing her debut novel“A Model’s Summer,” published in 2007, and the candid nonfiction book “No Filter,” published in 2022.
