Emery calls on Liverpool to change Elliott loan deal
Unai Emery says Aston Villa have been trying to change the terms of Harvey Elliott’s loan move from Liverpool “for three months”.
The former Fulham wonderkid joined Villa on deadline day in September with an obligation to buy based on a stipulated number of appearances.
Elliott has now made seven appearances for Villa, and the contract stipulates that once Elliott has played ten times, Villa must pay Liverpool about 30 million pounds.
“I spoke to him. We have been fair because there are two ways,” Emery said.
“One way is sport and the second way is business. Just in case, we will be fair because we are trying, I told him that I spoke to Xavi several times.
“Now I have the door open to play with us because he can help us, but it’s not just on my side. The other side is Liverpool and if they cancel their clause then we have to buy him to play.”
“(I told him) ‘You’re going to play here with us, it’s a sporting decision’. But now it’s a sporting decision and a business decision.
“My sporting decision is still there – ‘You deserve to play, we need your quality on the pitch, you’re going to play’. But just in case, the terms are still there and now it’s Liverpool – they have the key.”
With one youngster struggling to get game time, Villa have now decided to loan out another to gain some senior experience.
Rory Wilson joins Sturm Graz on loan
Villa confirmed in a club statement this weekend that young forward Rory Wilson will join Austrian side Sturm Graz until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old, who joined from the Rangers youth academy, has performed well in the youth team this season, scoring more goals than he has in Europe.

The youngster featured regularly for Scotland’s youth teams, scoring 19 goals for the U17s and U19s before moving up to the U21s.
He praised John McGinn’s influence on his development at Bodymoor Heath: “I speak to John McGinn from time to time. He gets on really well with all the Scottish lads at Villa.”
Villa hope he will be ready to break into the first team from the start of the 2026/27 season.
