Olympic gold medalist and American alpine skier Lindsay Vonn She continued to defy the odds on Friday, completing her first women’s downhill workout a week after tearing her ACL during a World Cup race.

The 41-year-old ski champion, who has 12 World Cup wins in Cortina, including six downhill races, looked aggressive in her first training session.

A torn ACL typically sidelines an athlete for about a year, but Vaughn remained determined to get the injury under control and compete. She detailed the severity on Friday, writing on X that critical knee ligaments were “100 percent gone.”

“Up until last Friday, my ACL was fully functional. Just because it seems impossible to you, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Yes, my ACL was 100% ruptured. Not 80% or 50%. It’s 100% gone,” Vaughn wrote.
Vaughan revealed the injury the next day post video She squats with a barbell in the gym. She underwent partial right knee replacement in 2024, highlighting her long-standing knee problems.

The women’s downhill race begins on Sunday, with Vonn expected to be on the starting line.
“I know what my chances were before the accident, and I know my chances are different than they are today, but I know there is still a chance. As long as there is a chance, I will try,” she told reporters at the Cortina Curling Stadium on Tuesday.
