Universal Successfully Bullied Into Allowing Olympian To Use ‘Minions’ Music

Two things you never thought existed in the same sentence came together this week in a truly inspiring way. those things”Olympic figure skating“and”Minions.”

Tomás‑Llorenç Guarino Sabaté, a six-time Spanish national figure skating championis scheduled to make his Olympic debut later this month at the games in Milan, Italy. The short routine he plans to use features him in an outfit that resembles the favorite banana-loving creatures, the Minions, as well as music from the franchise.

In the months before the games, Guarino Sabaté submitted the music through the proper channels and performed the routine several times. Everything was set…or so he thought. Just days before the Olympics began, Universal told him he couldn’t use the music due to copyright issues.

“Finding it on Friday, so close to the most important competition of my life, was very disappointing,” he wrote online. “To my fans, I wish I had better news, but I really appreciate your support this time.”

The news will force Guarino Sabaté to create a new routine days before the competition. But the fans didn’t get it. And, as one would expect, the news also gained new fans. Angry fans. Several global news outlets picked up the story, and, according to Guarino Sabaté, the support changed the company’s mind.

“Thank you so much to everyone who reposted, shared and supported. Because of you Universal Studios considered and officially granted the rights for this special occasion,” Sabaté posted on Instagram Stories. The post says there are a few other issues, but he believes they will be taken care of soon.

Although Guarino Sabaté is not expected to win the competition, you can be sure that many, many more people will be watching his performance today. They should be as well. Check out this awesome routine.

According to USA Todaythe show will take place on Tuesday, February 10.
