Dana White’s Boxing Mount Rushmore Is Good for Star Power

White is quick to point out that he’s not just focused on wins and losses. He sees greatness from the promoter’s perspective.

“I see things from a different perspective than most people because I also focus on the business side,” White explains.

His top four selections reflect this philosophy:

  1. muhammad ali
  2. sugar ray robinson
  3. Floyd Mayweather
  4. mike tyson

The additions of Ali and Robinson are undisputed as they represent the gold standard of skill and cultural impact. However, the back half of his list leans heavily toward the “superstar” category.

By placing Floyd Mayweather at No. 3, White acknowledged the “money” era and the blueprint for modern sports promotion. Picking Mike Tyson at No. 4 is further evidence of White’s bias against fighters who changed the financial trajectory of the sport. While Tyson’s prime was legendary, purists often argue that other fighters had deeper resumes.

The most glaring absence from White’s roster is Manny Pacquiao. As the only boxer in history to win world titles in eight different weight classes, “Pac-Man” is the permanent talking point for most fans about “The GOAT.”

Ditching Pacquiao and adding Tyson is bound to arouse heated discussions. Pacquiao’s longevity and willingness to face multiple generations of elite competition make him a statistical marvel. However, because White views these lists from a “business perspective,” Tyson’s raw intimidation factor and Mayweather’s undefeated record appear to carry more weight in his eyes.

This isn’t just a fan sharing his favorite fighter. As White has been hinting at a big move into boxing, these comments provide a glimpse into what he values. If Zuffa boxing eventually becomes a reality, White will be looking for the next Tyson or Mayweather, fighters who are both champions and brands.
