Dwight McNeill’s girlfriend slams Crystal Palace for ‘toying’ with Everton midfielder

Dwight McNeil’s girlfriend Megan Sharpley has condemned Crystal Palace To “play” with Everton The midfielder said he was left “heartbroken” by the breakdown of his move at Selhurst Park.

McNeil was on his way to the Eagles late on transfer deadline day to complete the transfer. Sharpley says the failure to move Hill away from Dickinson Stadium “has hurt more than I can say”.

In a series of posts last night InstagramSharpley said: “Tonight, and the last 48 hours have broken my heart to see how the football world that you love so much can be so cruel to you.

“To promise you something, to be dragged along on an emotional rollercoaster, and to be toyed with until the last minute. Four and a half years of your life was promised to you, travel, medical, contracts…promises. To prepare to move your entire life, our lives are 100 miles away in the space of a few hours.

“To have him walk away from you at the last second, with absolutely no explanation. Going from everything – to radio silence, no phone calls, no communication and being left with, nothing but confusion, a broken heart, has hurt more than I can say.”

Not acceptable to mess with emotions – Sharpley

She added: “Money doesn’t matter, we all deserve to be treated with respect, kindness and fairness. So I really question the industry tonight. I just hope that more is done in the future to save people from situations like what I saw tonight. Football is cruel and yes, that’s the nature of the beast, but messing with human emotions and feelings should be acceptable.”

Sharpley, who underwent major surgery in early 2024 and credits McNeill with helping her make a full recovery, said the former Burnley man will now step down at Everton.

“So, here’s to continuing as an Everton player,” she wrote. “The support we’ve had from this club, especially during my illness, has meant a lot on tour, so let’s keep grinding, working and grafting for this badge. Let’s keep going Dwight, show who you are. I’m on your side.”

McNeill, who joined the Toffees from Burnley in 2022 for a fee in the region of £20m, has made 14 league appearances for Everton this season, contributing one assist.
