Manchester City An irresistible proposal is now being prepared to appoint a “special” Guardiola Replaced at the end of the season.
Manchester City looking for new manager amid Pep uncertainty
David Ornstein Now suggesting Guardiola’s reign at the Etihad Stadium is likely to end in the summer, he said: “I think there is a very real possibility that Guardiola will leave at the end of the season. He signed a two-year contract but even within City the hierarchy expected it to be one year until the moment the announcement was made.
“There’s a feeling in the industry that these two years are about buying time. Of course, he can survive that period, but it’s also probably a smart and sensitive decision to try and avoid some of the pressure and scrutiny this season.”
Of course, whoever replaces Pep in the dugout will be extremely difficult to top his achievements, with the Spaniard having lifted a staggering 18 trophies since taking over in 2016.

However, a report in Spain revealed that City have now set their sights on a replacement amid uncertainty over the 55-year-old’s future. Xabi Alonso has become one of their top targets.
Manchester City are preparing an irresistible proposal to persuade Alonso to move to the Etihad Stadium, but may face competition from other teams. Premier League Rivals Liverpool are looking for a replacement for Arne Slott.
However, the Spaniard is not the only option on City’s shortlist, with Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany and former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca also named as potential targets.
‘Outstanding’ Alonso could be exciting Guardiola heir apparent
Of course, many City fans hope Pep at least opts to fulfill his current contract, but if he does decide to leave this summer, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss could emerge as an exciting replacement.
Jurgen Klopp The 44-year-old has certainly been impressed by his work at the German club, during which he won the Bundesliga title and DFB-Pokal, and said: “The football he played, the team he built, the transfers he made, it was absolutely phenomenal.”
In fact, the legendary midfielder won the 2023-24 title without losing a game and there are signs he could be Pep’s replacement, former Alaves assistant coach Christian Moya explain: “For me, there are a lot of similarities in the coaching styles of Alonso and Guardiola.”
Alonso could therefore be Guardiola’s ideal successor, although he struggled at Real Madrid and was sacked after less than eight months at the helm.
