A temporary restraining order (TRO) was issued against Polymarket in Nevada.
Judge Jason Woodbury ruled that Polymarket should be temporarily excluded from state contracts and sided with regulators who argued that prediction markets that offer event contracts must comply with state gaming law.
Polymarket faces TRO
Nevada has proven to be a key battleground for disagreements between federally licensed entities such as Polymarket, regulators, and traditional licensed gambling entities.
We reported that Kalshi and Crypto.com (Crypto) was also banned from entering into sports contracts in Nevada after lengthy court battles.
Polymarket won a brief delay in the proceedings, leading many to believe that this was a saving grace for the prophecy giver.

Now, Polymarket faces the same legal challenge as Kalshi and Crypto before Judge Woodbury of the First Judicial District Court of the State of Nevada, Carson City.
Judge Woodbury stated that “The question of federal preemption in this area is nuanced and rapidly evolving. Currently, the balance of persuasive legal authority weighs against federal preemption in this context.”
The TRO is a time-limited decision (14 days) and, under normal circumstances, would preserve the status quo pending a decision on a preliminary injunction, but all is not well for Shane Coplan’s West Coast company.
“The resulting harm of avoiding Nevada’s ‘comprehensive regulatory structure’ and ‘strict licensing standards’ is immediate, irreparable, and not adequately remedied by compensatory damages,” Judge Woodbury continued in his decision.
Wallach stated that Polymarket is made in Nevada
Eagle-eyed and knowledgeable gambling commentator Daniel Wallach is once again at the forefront of news coming from the state of Sin City around the fate of X’s Polymarket.

Wallach posted on LinkedIn, highlighting Judge Woodbury’s comments, “The Board (NGCB) has a statutory duty to protect the public and advance Nevada’s interest in managing a reputable gaming industry with integrity. An unlicensed participant outside the Board’s control, such as Polymarket, hinders the Board’s ability to fulfill its statutory functions.
He followed X, saying, “It’s official. Polymarket is out in Nevada.” and then posted images of the same public statement from Polymarket and the restrictions on their services in the state of some sports contract lines.
“Selling is not allowed in Nevada. Tap to learn more.”
