Burnley manager Scott Parker then had a disappointing run Heavy defeat at Sunderland He has gone 15 Premier League games without a win.
The Clarets have not had a shot on target for the fourth time this season and are now 11 points adrift of safety.
Burnley have scored six goals in the opening 10 minutes of a Premier League game this season, more than any other side, and Parker was pleased with their lackluster performance.
He said: “We came into a tough spot tonight, which we knew and we didn’t really give ourselves a chance. The ingredients you need to come here, the real fundamentals of the game, we fell short.
“It surprised me. We came up short tonight.
“I didn’t see this performance coming, certainly where we’ve come from in terms of the performances and the results we’ve picked up. We were far short of ever being competitive in this division.
“I don’t care who you play, if you fall down where we fell short of a lack of purpose in whatever we did at times – it seemed dysfunctional at every stage. For that, you’re dealt with.”
Sunderland are unbeaten at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League this season (P12 W7 D5), marking the longest unbeaten start to a top-flight campaign by a newly promoted team since Nottingham Forest went the entire 1977-78 campaign unbeaten on home soil (P21 W15 D6).
The Black Cats are within striking distance of European football but manager Regis Le Bris is more concerned about securing safety.
The victory took them to 36 points.
“We had earlier set a target of around 40 points,” he said.
“That may be the case this season, maybe more, we don’t know. We are in progress. We will look to reach this goal as soon as possible. If possible we will set another one.”
