Christian Romero comments: Tottenham have ’11 players available’ against Manchester City, says Tottenham captain, ‘shameful’ football news

Tottenham captain Christian Romero has described it as “disgraceful” that Spurs only had 11 players available for the match against Manchester City.

Thomas Frank is under pressure at Tottenham Hotspur, who have gone six games without a win in the Premier League and sit 14th in the table. But they came back from two sets down against Manchester City on Sunday to salvage a 2-2 draw in front of their fans.

Romero struggled against Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek and was forced off at half-time due to illness, with the Argentina international’s comments on Instagram appearing to reflect his frustration at the club’s current woes.

“All my teammates put in a huge effort yesterday and they were unbelievable,” Romero posted on Monday.

“Even though I didn’t feel well, I wanted to help them, especially because we only had 11 players – unbelievable but true and shameful.

“We’re going to continue to show up and take responsibility for turning things around, working hard and sticking together. All that’s left is thank you all for being there and supporting us all the way.”

Why is Tottenham’s squad so short?

Tottenham Hotspur currently have more injured players than any other team in the Premier League, with 13 players currently out, many of them long-term.

Tottenham have added two first-team players in this window, bringing in Connor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and young Brazilian left-back Sousa from Santos. There was interest in Antoine Semenho but he chose to join Manchester City.

It is understood the club’s position is that better options may become available in the summer when significant investment is planned.
