EU tightens borders, Spain legalizes 500,000 migrants news


Spain will provide legal pathways to stay for immigrants already living in the country.

The Spanish government will grant legal status to undocumented immigrants currently living in the country. The decree, passed after years of grassroots campaigning, could affect some 500,000 immigrants and contrasts with anti-immigration sentiment in other EU countries. Why has the Spanish government decided to admit its immigrant population now?
