Devin Haney has never backed down from a challenge and he intends to keep that pattern going in the welterweight division.
The former undisputed lightweight champion moved up to 147 last November and captured the WBO world title from Brian Norman Jr., knocking out his opponent via unanimous decision.
Haney’s new division offers plenty of opportunities for interesting battles. A rematch with Ryan Garcia would be huge if he beats Mario Barrios to capture the WBC belt this month, but the other champions – Rolando Romero and Lewis Crocker – would also present an exciting clash of styles.
Conor Benn also became a name on everyone’s lips after his rematch victory over Chris Eubank Jr. last year, vowing to become a welterweight world champion, making him a viable option.
However, Haney also set his sights further. While watching Teofimo Lopez take on Shakur Stevenson at Madison Square Garden last weekend, he heard Keyshawn Davis call his name after his co-main event win over Jermain Ortiz. “Dream” was quick to take up the challenge on social media.
Keyshawn..let’s get started! 😅

Davis impressed in his super lightweight debut, patiently controlling proceedings and stopping the crafty Ortiz with about 15 seconds left. The vicious boxer from Norfolk, Virginia, has made it clear that he’s all about business and if he doesn’t get a big name at 140, then he’ll go to 147.
