A French-American chemist has made great progress in recycling rare earths




Rare earth elements are critical to the defense, automotive and electronics industries and have become a geopolitical battleground. China controls 95 percent of the world’s supply, thanks to cheap labor, vast deposits and lax environmental regulations. But a young French-American scientist has developed a revolutionary process to recover rare earths from neon lights and potentially other electronic devices, paving the way for the recycling of these essential metals.
