Steven Spielberg Is Into EGOT Status With New Grammy Win



Say hello to the Grammy-winning, newly inducted EGOT man Steven Spielberg.

During Sunday’s Grammy awards, the filmmaker picked up an award for the 2024 documentary film, Music by John Williams. It won for “Best Music Film” at the non-televised ceremony, and marked his first win and nomination in a music-oriented event. Spielberg, along with others like George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedyboth produced the doc and featured in it, talking about their relationship with Williams.

In a statement, Spielberg thanked the Grammy voters, calling it “obviously more meaningful because it confirms what I’ve known for more than 50 years: John Williams’ influence on culture and music is immeasurable and his art and legacy are unparalleled.” For those watching at home, Spielberg is the 21st recipient of the EGOT, joining the likes of Viola Davis and Elton John. He is also the oldest EGOT winner at age 79, and the third director after John Gielgud in 1991 and Mike Nichols in 1991.

The first collaboration with Steven Spielberg and John Williams was in 1974’s Sugarland Express after he specifically asked Williams to work on the film. A year later, they met again for the first time Jaws, followed by Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, and the Indiana Jones series. Many films they worked together, viz ET and Schindler’s List, nominated and later won Best Original Score at the Oscars. Their bond was so strong that Williams announced that she wanted it will probably retire from scoring films afterwards Indiana Jones 5, only to return to score Spielberg’s ci-fi flick Revelation Day, which hits theaters in June.
