Harbhajan Singh launches open challenge to Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi after India boycotts clashes

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has taken direct criticism of Pakistan over threats to boycott the 2026 India vs Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup match in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 15. In his speech, Singh called Pakistan “arrogant”.

On Sunday, the Pakistani government announced that they had decided not to file a case against India on February 15 through its official social media profiles. Following the announcement, Pakistan faced the wrath of a large section of cricket fans. Harbhajan Singh said Pakistan’s decision to boycott matches against India reflects a lack of concern for their cricket fans in the country.

Pakistan expresses support for Bangladesh

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Prime Minister Sherbaz Sharif following the expulsion of the Bangladesh cricket team. From a cricketing perspective, Pakistan is not involved in Bangladesh’s dispute with the ICC but they wanted to show solidarity with Bangladesh and hence threatened to boycott. Pakistan’s stance is more political than cricket.

Interestingly, the announcement on Sunday was made by the Pakistan government and not the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The PCB is yet to inform the International Cricket Council of their decision in a formal manner. Harbhajan Singh has challenged Naqvi to boycott the Indian team at the 2026 T20 World Cup.

This is just to show arrogance: Harbhajan Singh

“What do you get out of this?” former India spinner Harbhajan Singh asked this question in a video on his YouTube channel.

“This is just to show arrogance. If you really think you can do such a thing, then be determined. Let’s see if you really have the guts. This is a complete drama created to mislead people into thinking that they are with Bangladesh. There is no problem in that, but do you have any thoughts for the people of your country who want the India-Pakistan match to happen?” Harbhajan further added.

Singh mentioned that although Pakistan has played against India many times in the 2025 Asian Cup, the political relations between the two countries are at a low ebb. However, Singh shared his thoughts that Pakistan is dealing with India only for revenue.

He also emphasized that the 2026 T20 World Cup India vs Pakistan match is scheduled to be played in Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 15, which is a neutral venue. The venue was chosen keeping in mind the needs of Pakistan. Now, they are threatening to boycott the game.

“This match was supposed to be played at a neutral venue and there is no dispute with you. There was a war recently and you still participated in the Asian Cup. There was drama about the trophy, but the match did happen because you were not ready to leave that venue. If you are such a patriot, where is your patriotism? So, you don’t have any feelings for your country, but you now want to stand with other countries.” Harbhajan Singh said.
