The Rafah crossing in Gaza will be partially opened after years of almost complete closure

Israel partially reopened the Rafah crossing between the devastated Gaza Strip and Egypt on Sunday, following months of appeals by aid groups, although access is restricted to pedestrians. COGAT, the Israeli Defense Ministry body responsible for coordinating Palestinian civilian affairs, made no mention of allowing the long-awaited aid surge and said the movement of individuals through the crossing in both directions was expected to begin on Monday.
