Wolves Now has taken a late approach to signing a striker Rob Edwards Described as “outstanding” at the start of the season.
Wolves considering another signing after Gomez
Wolves sit bottom Premier League At the top of the table, 17 points from safety, relegation looks almost inevitable, but they are still keen to strengthen their squad before the February 2 transfer deadline and they have successfully attracted Marseille midfielder Angel Gomez.
There’s been a lot of speculation in terms of potential spending Jorgen Strand LarsonCrystal Palace have made a club-record bid of £48.5 million for the Norwegian striker.
In fact, the 25-year-old has performed poorly this season, scoring only one goal in the Premier League, but if he really leaves, the Old Gold team will need to bring in a replacement, and they have now taken the first step to introduce a British Championship striker.
This is according to a report from Express & Star (from Birmingham World) which states Wolves have now submitted an inquiry into the deal for Southampton striker Adam Armstrongas they look to bring in a new center before the deadline.
Edwards and Co are yet to decide who their priority forward targets will be, but Armstrong is one of the options being considered, although the move could prove controversial given he is a former West Bromwich Albion player.
It’s unclear whether the Old Trafford outfit intend to sign the striker on a permanent basis or on loan, but there are clear signs he could help them secure promotion from the Championship next season.
Armstrong could be a ‘brilliant’ signing for Wolves
Saints have struggled in the Championship this season and currently sit 14th in the Championship, but the Englishman has impressed in front of goal, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 29 games.
The 28-year-old was praised by fans after scoring in the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough earlier this season Edwardswho said: “I thought Armstrong did a great job today. He’s a really good football player and they were threats everywhere.”
The centre-forward’s record in the second tier is very encouraging, with 91 goals and 37 assists in 277 Championship games, particularly impressive in his last three full Championship spells with Blackburn Rovers and Saints.
