Leeds United head coach Daniel Wake refused to rule out entering the transfer market to strengthen the squad before Monday’s deadline passed.
The German manager watched his side lose 4-0 to league leaders Arsenal at Elland Road. Premier League Saturday and might want to add some quality to the team before the window ends.
Facundo Bonanotte, who joins on loan from Brighton, is their only signing of the transfer window so far and has appeared as a substitute in their last two league games.
The Argentinian attacking midfielder only played eight games during his loan spell at Chelsea during the first half of the 2025/26 season, so it may take him some time to get back into regular football before he’s ready to start every week.
Leeds United set to sign new striker
The Whites appear to be looking to bring in another number nine option to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lucas Nmecha, according to reports they got in touch Regarding a possible deal for former Aston Villa striker Jon Dolan.
They have also been related to interests Wolfsburg striker Mohamed Almoura has scored seven goals in the Bundesliga this season, but it remains to be seen whether the two deals can be completed in the next 24 hours or so.
While the Whites have been looking to sign Duran and Amora from further afield, they are also looking for a star player to play closer to home.
According to Sky SportsLeeds United are still in the final stages of a race to sign Wolves center Jorgen Strand-Larsen.
Reports claim that Crystal Palace are still trying to sign the Norway international. They were close to sealing a £50m deal for the striker but hit a snag in negotiations with Wolves, opening up competition for his signature.
The report adds that Leeds are willing to pay up to £40m to sign the former Celta Vigo talent on a permanent deal before Monday’s deadline, but it remains to be seen whether this will be enough to convince King to part ways with him so late in the transfer window.
Sky Sports also revealed that the West Yorkshire outfit will not be in the market to sign a replacement striker if they are unable to sign Strand Larsson in the coming hours.
If any deal is done, it would break Leeds United’s existing transfer record.
Why Strand Larsen has shades of Rodrigo
When Leeds won promotion to the Premier League in 2020, Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa splashed money on the team. Spanish striker Rodrygo signed for £26m Coming from Valencia, it was a club record deal at the time.
The Spain international only scored four goals in La Liga in 2019/20 but had already scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions last season.
Rodrygo went on to make 97 appearances for Leeds United, scoring 28 goals. He didn’t quite live up to the massive fee that signed him, but the versatile attacker wasn’t a complete failure either.
There are shades of Rodrigo in this potential trade for Strand-Larsen for a few reasons. For a fee of £40m, he will join Rodrygo as the Whites’ all-time signing, putting extra pressure on his time at Elland Road.
Presumably they will also sign him based on his performance in previous seasons rather than this season, as was the case when they signed the Spaniard after a four-goal season in La Liga.
Strand Larsen scored 14 goals in his debut season with Wolves in the Premier League last season, but his form has declined this year.
As you can see in the table above, the Norwegian giant is incredibly wasteful in front of goal and offers little to his team in the top flight, which is a cause for concern.
His poor form this season suggests that a club-record transfer fee of £40m may be a bit too high for the striker, much like Rodrygo’s £26m move after scoring four goals at Valencia, but his goalscoring return in 2024/25 means he has the potential to become a regular goalscorer for Leeds.
Like Rodrygo, signing Strand Larsson for £40m would be a big risk for the Whites and if they can seal a last-minute deal for the Wolves star, they will hope that things are a little better than when they signed the Spaniard.
