White House responds to reports Trump wants to build 250-foot ‘Freestanding Arch’

The White House defended the proposal in a statement to Fox News Digital, calling the monument a central part of Trump’s legacy and vision for the country’s future. 250th anniversary.

“The Arch will become one of the most iconic landmarks not just in Washington, D.C., but around the world,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle said. “President Trump’s bold vision will be etched in the fabric of America and felt for generations to come. His success will continue to give the greatest country on Earth – America – the glory it deserves.”

By comparison, the White House is about 70 feet tall and the Lincoln Memorial is about 100 feet tall. A 250-foot-tall building will tower over both.

Earlier this month, Trump sparked new speculation when he shared a series of renderings of a classical triumphal arch on his Truth Social account on January 23. The images show several design variations inspired by classical European arches such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, featuring massive columns, wide central openings and ornate details.

Trump has been publicly discussing the idea since late last year, when he said construction on a triumphal arch-style monument commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States could begin within two months.

Trump said construction has not yet begun but suggested the project would move forward quickly.

“It hasn’t started yet. It’s going to start sometime in the next two months. It’s going to be great. Everybody loves it,” Trump told Politico In a phone call from Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

“They also like the ballroom. But they like the Arc de Triomphe,” he added.

The monument will be privately funded using remaining donations from the White House Ballroom project, Fox News Digital previously reported.

Key details of the project have not yet been finalized. The White House has not released specific information on the monument’s cost, approval process, exact location or final height, and construction has not yet begun.

The Washington Post cited some architects and historians who questioned placing a monument of this size near the Circle, saying it could affect the historic landscape and character of the area.
