It was a memorable night for the Liverpool defender.
Ibrahima Konate was lost for words after scoring on his return Liverpool Side after his father’s death when the Reds later came to kill Newcastle United 4-1.
Liverpool have dropped to fifth place Premier League Table Eventually with a comfortable win, although they were second-best for much of the first half and fell behind when Anthony Gordon arrowed Newcastle into a 36th-minute lead.
However Hugo Ekitike’s two goals before half time turned the game on its head.
Florian Wirtz then made it 3-1, but the biggest cheer of the night at Anfield came when Connaught tapped in after Nick Pope fumbled a late Liverpool corner into his path.
Konate understandably couldn’t contain his emotions as he celebrated his goal and, speaking to TNT Sports after the match, he reflected on a night he will surely remember forever.
“Of course I’m very happy,” Connaught said.
“I don’t have words to describe what I’m feeling right now because the last two weeks have been a very difficult moment for me and my family, but this is part of life. It’s hard to accept and we don’t have a choice.
“I know there were some injured players in the team, and the manager on call said take my time and I don’t have to go back.
“In this (injury) situation it was important for me to come back and help the team. I did it with the team at Anfield today, the atmosphere was unbelievable today, and we need this until the end of the season.”
