Luke Humphries fired a stunning nine-dart to beat Luke Woodhouse in dramatic fashion at the Winmau World Masters, sending Luke Littler into the quarter-finals.
Humphreys produced his first “perfect leg” of the tournament this year to end the second set against Woodhouse, who fought back from 3-1 down to take the second round to a decider in Milton Keynes.
The defending champion missed a match dart in the fifth set and wasted three more darts in a tense final set to send the match into the final leg, where Humphries held serve to win by a narrow margin and set up a meeting with Danny Norpert in the quarter-finals.
Norpert defeated Stephen Bunting in straight sets, Josh Locke swept past former world champion Rob Cross 4-1, and Littler eased into the quarter-finals by beating Ross Smith by the same margin in a high-scoring match.
Littler, who posted an average of 107.88 and eight perfect scores in a match in which he was described as “unplayable” in his opening match, moved a step closer to securing one of the two PDC Ranking TV Slams missing from his glittering darts resume.
