Preparations for Season 11 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) Shaken by huge number of player exits as high-profile international stars Glenn Maxwell, Harry Brookeand Fife du Plessis They reportedly opted to withdraw from the 2026 tournament. The triple whammy comes amid broader concerns about the league’s ability to attract top overseas talent, leading to an extended draft registration window as teams scramble to fill rosters.
Big Three opt out: Reasons behind exit
The absence of these cricketing heavyweights marks a challenging period for the PSL, which aims to expand to eight teams this season. Each player’s decision, while personally motivated, paints a picture of the competitive landscape of T20 leagues and the demand for international cricketers.
Glenn Maxwell: Prioritize fitness and IPL commitments
Enigmatic Australian all-rounder Maxwell has reportedly ‘closed’ the door to playing in PSL 11. Sources close to the player said Maxwell is prioritizing his physical fitness and recovery. The international schedule is full, especially 2026 T20 World Cup Maxwell is tall and seems keen to manage his workload effectively to ensure the best performance from the Australian team. His decision highlights a growing trend of players strategically selecting tournaments to maximize their health and earning potential.
Harry Brooke: England have zero concern and zero interest in PSL
Young English star Brooke had previously opted out of the IPL, but he is a name many would like to see in the PSL. However, there are reports that Brooke has shown “zero interest” in registering for the PSL 11 draft. Brook appears to be extremely focused on his England career and has a keen eye on upcoming or ongoing international duties. For many budding stars, a national team commitment is often paramount and Brook’s decision highlights his commitment to cementing his place in the England squad across all formats.
Faf du Plessis: Change of mind after initial interest
Perhaps the most surprising exit was that of former South Africa captain Du Plessis. After initially expressing his enthusiasm for the PSL as a “new challenge”, especially after opting out of the 2026 IPL, the latest reports in late January confirmed that Du Plessis has ultimately decided not to participate. The exact reasons for his change of heart aren’t entirely clear, but they contribute to the narrative that top talent has become increasingly picky about their franchise league involvement.
