The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that 35-year-old Elleshia Anne Seymour was detained on January 16 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Prosecutors said they are currently working with federal partners to explore extradition options but have not released a timetable.

Seymour was charged in Utah with four counts of custodial interference-removing a child out of state, all third-degree felonies, after authorities said he took the children out of the country without their father’s consent and failed to return them for court-ordered visitation.

Officials said Seymour boarded a one-way flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam on Nov. 29 and then traveled to Croatia with his children. Investigators said her deadline to return the children to their father had “long passed” and the fathers told police they never agreed to have the children leave the state or country.

Father-of-three Kendall Seymour said the family was unaware children are missing Until a few days after they were taken overseas.

“On Sunday, November 30, my ex-wife flew to Europe“, kidnapped my three children and her fourth child,” Seymour wrote in his original GoFundMe post. “We were not informed until Tuesday, December 2, that someone was missing.”

A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued in December after prosecutors argued Seymour was a flight risk and a danger to her children, court records show.

Police later found Seymour’s apartment unlocked and abandoned, her vehicle parked at Salt Lake City International Airport, and a notebook outlining plans to discard her cell phone and documents, according to charging documents. Kendall Seymour said his ex-wife allegedly forged passport documents for their children and left what he said was a delusional note claiming she had received a message from God promising she would arrive in Italy before Christmas.

He also said police found a handwritten to-do list that included instructions to “shred paperwork,” “destroy identifying photos,” “throw away the phone” and “purchase a prepaid phone.”

The children were eventually resettled in Croatia and placed in a state-run orphanage.

Now, Kendall Seymour has flown to Europe in a desperate bid to bring them home.

In an update to the GoFundMe campaign posted on January 25, Seymour said the children remain “trapped in a state-run orphanage in Croatia” and that he is working to secure their release from government custody.

“We were at home trying to get the children out of the custody of the local authorities,” he wrote, adding that the family was forced to hire a Croatian lawyer who specializes in international child abduction cases, apply under the Hague Convention, pay for court-approved translations and extend their stay abroad indefinitely.

Seymour said the fundraiser’s initial goal had already been consumed by travel expenses and warned that future costs, including for treatment, were still unknown.

“Who knows how much money the five of us will need for medical treatment when this is all over,” he wrote.

He also revealed that a fifth American child traveling with Seymour and his children was placed in the same orphanage. The child’s identity has not been made public, and Seymour said his legal situation is “more difficult” and will require additional legal strategies and assistance.
