Afghanistan star all-rounder Rashid Khan took a cheeky dig at Pat Cummins while picking the four teams for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup semi-finals.
Rashid Khan referred to an old interview with Pat Cummins when he was asked the same question (possible semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup). Cummins only selected the Australian cricket team to reach the semi-finals at the time.

With a smile on his face, the Afghan superstar mentioned the previous interview. As Cummins mentioned that there is only one Australian team ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the spin bowling all-rounder used the same reference and took a shameless dig at Cummins. While talking to SportsTak, Rashid Khan was asked to pick four teams for the 2026 T20 World Cup semi-finals.

In his reply, he referred to the old comment and mocked Pat Cummins. “Do you remember the last 2024 World Cup? There was an interview where someone named one team and was told to add three other teams,” Rashid Khan said.

Ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Cummins was asked to pick the top four teams for the semi-finals. In this regard, he said that he could only mention the Australian team and did not care about other teams.

So, Rashid brought up the conversation, took a playful dig at Cummins, and then picked his four favorite teams for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The upcoming T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka and will begin on February 7.
Rashid believes they have the potential to qualify for the semi-finals due to the conditions in the subcontinent. Although he did not choose Australia.

India, South Africa and England are the other three teams selected by Rashid Khan for the four-team stage. He also said that the competition will be very competitive as each team will have multiple game-changing players.
Afghanistan will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against New Zealand in Chennai on February 8 (day two of the tournament). Afghanistan cricket team is placed in Group D along with Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and UAE cricket teams.
It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan reached the semi-finals of the last T20 World Cup. Despite their promising performance, they lost by nine wickets to South Africa in the semi-finals and were eliminated from the title race.
