“A vaccine to prevent murder”? Israel divided on reinstating death penalty


Last year, the head of the Jewish Power group, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, was one of the few ministers to vote against the U.S.-brokered Gaza ceasefire deal that would have seen the return of the last remaining hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, about 250 of whom are serving life or long sentences, many of them convicted of killing Israelis. He said he opposed all hostage agreements.
