Former NASCAR Cup Series driver Mark Martin recently dropped his reaction to the National Transportation Safety Board’s report into the crash of Greg Biffle’s plane. The report shares insights into the mechanical issues that led to the tragic crash that killed seven people on board.

According to a report published on Friday, January 30, 2026, Dennis Dutton and his son Jack were driving a Cessna C550. However, documents show that Dennis, Jack and Biffle were not qualified to fly the twin-engine aircraft. The report also highlights that Biffle noticed that the left engine was producing more power than the right engine and that the instruments were faulty, but they continued to take off.

Greg Biffle and his pilot were flying under VFR (visual flight rules), and the Cessna C550 turned left after gaining a certain altitude. Later, they requested IFR clearance, but ATC was overloaded at the time. The aircraft gained altitude and multiple warning signs appeared, including the Garmin GTN 750 and altitude indicators.

Reflecting on this, Mark Martin wrote a heartfelt note to X, sent to the late man. Nazca driver:

“As a pilot, it’s very painful to read this. I wish we could turn back time. I feel so helpless right now and wish I could help.”

The NTSB report further highlighted that the pilot requested that the flaps and landing gear be extended. However, the lights on the landing gear did not come on, causing confusion and causing the crash. The report concluded that there were no signs of pre-impact fire or catastrophic mechanical failure.
