Lottie Woad, Lydia Ko share lead in Florida State Championship | Golf News

Lottie Woad shares the lead with Lydia Ko after the second round of the Hilton Grand Vacations Championship.

England’s Ward shot a 69 on Friday at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Florida, building on his first-round 67 and moving to 8 under par so far.

Ward felt he could have played better after recording four birdies and a bogey.

“I looked at a lot of the leaderboards today because I was angry,” Ward said.

“It doesn’t look like there are that many low scores, so I know I’m still in it. The pins can be a little tricky, so there aren’t as many birdies as there were yesterday, so all I can do is keep giving myself opportunities.”

Ward won the Women’s Irish Open as an amateur last July and three weeks later won the Women’s Scottish Open on her professional debut.

Three-time major champion Ko shot a 5-under 67 and joined Ward at 8-under.

“I would never say this golf course is easy,” Ko said. “Obviously, we play mixed tees. We use some black tees, white tees and blue tees.

“This golf course changes a lot depending on the conditions. In May it’s actually quite hard to play because it’s so soft that time of year.

“The greens are the biggest change between me playing here every day and getting ready to play. The superintendents have done an incredible job keeping the greens as pristine as possible and as fast as possible.”

Current world No. 2 and former No. 1 Nelly Korda shot 71 and was three shots back at 5 under.

Korda has not won a race since November 2024.

“I thought the weather was going to get worse, so I was going to go to the green, go to the driving range because I didn’t have the best score today,” Korda said.

“Just trying to get a few things sorted out before the weekend.”
